About this controller test

Controller Test is a bench for game pads that lives in a browser tab. It listens to your controller through the Gamepad API, or, experimentally, over WebHID in desktop Chrome and Edge, and turns raw numbers into a call you can act on: fine, early wear or faulty, with the next step.

Built for

Players chasing a drifting stick before a warranty claim, people buying a used pad who want proof it works, and anyone who wonders whether that missed input was the controller or the game. Model pages know the quirks of each pad: the squarer stick gate of an Xbox controller, trigger rumble, the DualSense’s adaptive triggers.

Under the hood

Every reading is processed on your own machine; there is nothing to sign up for and nothing to upload. Once loaded, the bench keeps working without a connection.

When a number can’t be measured honestly from a browser, input lag in milliseconds for one, the bench leaves it out rather than guessing. How the bench works walks through both ways it reads a pad.

Trademarks

Controller Test is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed or sponsored by Sony Interactive Entertainment, Microsoft, Nintendo, Valve or 8BitDo. PlayStation, DualSense and DualShock are trademarks of Sony Interactive Entertainment; Xbox of Microsoft; Nintendo Switch and Joy-Con of Nintendo; Steam of Valve; 8BitDo of its owner. Product names only say which controllers a check supports. Buttons on the bench are named by position (South, East, West, North).
